Creating a Scanning Definition when Logged into EZid at a Workstation Without a Scanner

EZid requires that scanning definitions be configured for a specific scanner type. Users cannot apply settings to a definition without a scanner installed on the PC.

Steps to create a new scanning definition from an EZid workstation that does not have a scanner installed:

  1. In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Windows\ezid.ini.
  2. Make note of the location of the main drive; this is the server folder.
  3. Make note of the location of the local drive; this is where EZid is installed on this workstation.
  4. Browse to the EZid server location.
  5. Locate an existing definition file with a .def extension. If there are several definitions, select the one that is most like the one you want to create.
  6. Copy that file to the desktop.
  7. Save as < new name .def > into both the EZid server folder and EZid folder on the workstation.
  8. Open EZid and go to Admin>Options>Scanning Properties. The new definition should be in the drop down menu.
  9. Make adjustments as needed.
