Epson Validation Printer is Printing ????? on Receipt Tape
Epson validation printer starts printing question marks on receipt tape for no apparent reason. The teller is not doing a transaction at the time.
Environment:
Epson printers include: TM-U325, TM-U375, TM-U675, TM-H6000
Workaround:
There is a Data Reception Error setting on the Epson printers. If the setting is On then the printer ignores the data reception error. If setting is Off and printer detects an error, it will print question marks.
Steps to change this setting on the Epson printer models TM-U325, TM-U375, TM-U675, or TM-H6000:
- Power off the printer and turn it upside down.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the small rectangular plate on the bottom of the printer.
- Turn on the dip switch number 1 under the DSW1 set of dip switches.
- Turn the printer right-side up. If the Paper Out light is on, adjust the paper roll.
- To print a self-test hold down the Paper Feed or Feed button down and turn the printer on.
- On the 325 and 375 it should read: Receive error: ignore.
- On the 675 and 6000 printers, the dip switch settings print on the self-test. It will show DIP Switch 1 #1 in on position.
- To clear the self-test, turn the printer off and back on.
- Once the setting is correct, replace the plate on the bottom of the printer.
