Fusion Servicing Director Service Pack Installation Error: No SQL Instances Found. Either Install a SQL Instance on this Server or...

No SQL instances found. Either install a SQL instance on this server or make sure the 2012 SQL Shared Management Objects are installed.

Root Cause:

This is a Fusion Servicing Director database service pack installation error. The Servicing Director database service pack installation should be run on a server with a supported version of Microsoft SQL Server already installed with the required Servicing Director settings, and a full version of the Servicing Director database product the service pack was intended to update.

This error indicates that the server does not have SQL Server installed or, if SQL Server is installed, that there is a problem finding it.

Workaround:

If the server displaying this error does not have SQL Server installed already, review your configuration, as the full version of Servicing Director database product requires a SQL server and you may be running the service pack on the wrong server.

If the server displaying this error does have SQL Server installed already, then perform the following steps:

  1. Restart your Windows server.
  2. Retry the service pack installation, using the extra Windows procedures described by the installation instructions to use a Windows Command Prompt opened with a right-click>Run as Administrator.
  3. If the same error continues, click OK on the error popup screen, and continue the installation as instructed.
  4. Enter the correct SQL server name or instance name when prompted on the Database Username and Password screen.  The SQL Server Name (Instance) field will be blank in this case, and you will need to manually enter the name.
  5. The rest of the installation should continue normally.
Note: Until the root cause of the issue is resolved, future Servicing Director database products may continue to have this error, and you will have to continue to manually enter the SQL server name or instance name. Often the cause for the error is an issue with Microsoft WMI, where WMI does not have correct information about your SQL Server Management Object.  To resolve a WMI issue, use your Microsoft WMI support information.
