Finding the Fusion Servicing Director Installation Log File

The Fusion Servicing Director installation files use Microsoft Installer to install our products and updates.

The Microsoft Installer will create a new log of the Servicing Director installation activity each time an installation is attempted.

Additionally, the database product installation may create a separate database installation log.

Note: The database log is overwritten with each attempt to install the database product.

These log files may be requested by customer support.

Have your Windows administrator or local IT use the procedure below to find the log file(s) to give to Servicing Director support.

  1. Log onto the computer where the installation was attempted as the same Windows user who performed the installation.
  2. Open the Windows user profile temporary folder. There can be more than one Windows method to do this, but one method is to browse to the %Temp% folder.
  3. For either an application or database product installation, there will be an "MSI" log file. The "MSI" log file will have the file name randomly named by the Microsoft Installer, but the file name will begin with "MSI" and end with the file extension ".LOG", with a random and unique combination of numbers and letters filling in the rest of the file name. For example, the log could end up with a file name such as MSI4321c.log. The Windows file modified date and time on the file will match the date and time of the last installation attempt. Because the Microsoft Installer is also used by other software, there may be other installation log files for other software in the same location, but the date and time of the file will be unique to your last attempt to install Servicing Director. If the log file is for a Servicing Director installation, the text content within the log file will include the keywords "Servicing Director" in one or more lines of text.
  4. Additionally, for the database product installation, there may be a database log file if there was an error during the SQL portion of the installation. The database log file name depends on whether the installation was a full version or a service pack. The full version log file name is DBInstall.log. The service pack log file name is DBInstallUpdate.log. The Windows file modified date and time on the file will match the date and time of the last installation attempt. If the log file is for a Servicing Director installation, the text content within the log file will include text from the failed SQL portion of the installation. Note that some of the text in the log file is only informational, with some lines of text being a message that can be ignored.
