Having the Servicing Director \SvcData Folder on a Server Other Than the Database Server
The Servicing Director \SvcData folder is updated by the Servicing Director SQL database server and always used by the Servicing Director desktop applications. It is required to be a local folder on the database server.
If you want to have the production \SvcData folder be on a server other than the database server, you will have to maintain two copies, with the master copy on the database server, and then update your other copy each time there is new content for the folder.
- Install or upgrade the \SvcData as a local folder on the database server as documented in the Servicing Director installation or upgrade guides.
- Share the \SvcData folder on the other server.
- Then, using Windows or other methods, create or update the \SvcData folder on the other server by determining which folders/file have new Windows file modified dates.
- Configure your Servicing Director desktop applications to use the \SvcData folder on the other server.
- You will be creating new content for the database server master copy of the \SvcData folder and need to update the \SvcData folder on the other server with each of the following:
- Each full release upgrade of the database server.
- Most likely each service pack upgrade of the database server.
- Each time you use the database server LSCNFG and apply any changes to the SQL logins or use the "FixRights" option.
