Creating the Servicing Director ODBC Data Sources

Creating the Servicing Director ODBC Data Sources

The Servicing Director applications use Windows ODBC Data Sources configured with the Microsoft SQL Server driver to connect to the Servicing Director SQL server.

The Data Sources for Servicing Director are automatically created by the Servicing Director application installation program, but you can create the Windows ODBC Data Sources should you need to do so.

The procedures below describe how to use the Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator, and create System Data Sources named Servicing and ServEM with the current version of the ODBC Driver for SQL Server and using SQL authentication.

Create the Servicing Director ODBC Data Sources as follows:

  1. On a Windows 7 or 8 32-bit computer, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).
    On a Windows 7 or 8 64-bit computer, run C:\WindowsSysWOW64\odbcad32.exe.
On a Windows 8.1 computer, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > ODBC Data Sources (32-bit).
On a Windows 10 computer, go to Windows Administrative Tools > ODBC Data Sources (32-bit).
  1. Select the System DSN tab on the ODBC Data Source Administrator screen.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Select the driver required for your version of Servicing Director.  For version 19.1 or later, select the ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server  For version 18.4 or earlier, select the ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. Enter the Data Source name "Servicing".
  6. Enter your Servicing Director SQL server name.  If you have a named instance of SQL Server, enter the instance name in the format "server name"\"SQL instance name".  Click Next.
  7. Select the SQL Server authentication option.  Only SQL Server authentication is supported for Servicing Director.
  8. Enter your "SA" login and password. This login name and password you enter here is not used by the Servicing Director applications, but instead, they are used only by the Microsoft ODBC wizard during the creation of the Data Source.  Click Next.
  9. Select the default database named "Service".  Make no other selections, accepting the default settings.  Click Next. Click Finish.

This completes the procedure to create the primary Servicing Director Data Source named "Servicing".  If you want to create the other Servicing Director Data Source named "ServEM", repeat the same procedure using the Data Source name "ServEM" instead of Servicing, and select the default database named "SvcEventMgr" instead of "Service".
