Setting up Security Permissions for User Groups

Setting up Security Permissions for User Groups

Follow these steps to add and modify a new user group. The attached worksheet is provided as a tool to use when setting up new groups.

Groups are set up with permissions for access and update capabilities throughout Servicing Director. Users assigned to the same group share the same security permissions.

  1. Open System Administration, and then click Security. The Security screen appears.
  2. Select Groups, and then click New. The New Group screen appears.
  3. Enter a unique name (up to 30 characters) for the new group.
  4. In the Based On field, select an existing group to use as a model for the security permissions for the new group. If security for the new group is different from the security for the existing group, you can quickly change the security permissions for the new group. The "Default" group has access to all modules and screens.
  5. Click OK to save your changes. The Security screen reappears.
  6. Select the new group, and then click Edit. The Edit Group screen appears.
  7. Do any of the following:
    • To allow this group to access a particular module, select that module, and then select the Allow Access check box.
    • To set permissions for all screens of a particular module to "view only," select that module and the Allow Access check box, and then click Set Permissions to View Only. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.

    • To restore permissions for all screens of a particular module to the maximum permissions allowed, select that module and the Allow Access check box, and then click Restore Default Permissions. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.

    • To authorize this group to view, update, or delete specific screens in a module, expand that module, select a screen, and then select the View, Update, or Delete check boxes as appropriate. The Update and Delete check boxes are available only if the specified screen supports updating or deleting. If a screen contains radio buttons to change the user's view, you must allow the user Update privileges for that screen.

    • To authorize this group to post batches, expand the module, select the appropriate posting function, and then select the Post check box. The Post check box is available only if you select a posting function.

    • To capture the amount of time that a member of the selected group has a screen open in a module, expand that module, select the screen, and then select Monitor Activity.

  8. Click Close to save your changes. The Security screen reappears.
