Finastra recently implemented a new convention for release numbering across all products. It is currently being rolled out on a product by product basis. This allows us to have a standard release number that identifies the year of the release and whether the release was scheduled or not. The following conventions exist:
Release x.0.0 - The first number reflects the year that the version is released.
Release 0.x.0 - The second number is the sequential number of planned releases. The first release of 2012 is 12.1.0. The second release of 2012 is 12.2.0.
Release 0.0.x - The third number is the sequential number of an unplanned release of the product. Unplanned releases may be a Hotfix release, a release to react to an upcoming compliance change that cannot wait for the next scheduled release, etc.
Here is an example:
14.1.0 – the first scheduled release (major or service pack) in 2014
14.2.0 – the second scheduled release (major or service pack) of 2014
14.2.1 – the first unscheduled release after 14.2.0
Note: Currently, there is a variation of version numbers, because this numbering conversion is taking place on a product by product basis. For example, LaserPro always uses the three characters even when the last one is zero.
This is how we define major release, service pack, hotfix, and on demand releases:
| Release | Description |
| Major | Major release containing significant feature enhancements or architectural change |
| Service Pack | Release containing multiple bug fixes with limited amount of new features. May have a scheduled frequency (monthly, quarterly, etc.) or released as needed. Note: Year-end releases are defined as Service Pack releases. |
| Hotfix | A release containing a limited number of bug fixes that cannot wait for the next Service Pack release. |
| On Demand | A release delivered to only a few clients that contains just one or two bug fixes that cannot wait for the next Service Pack release. For products that use installation packages, an On Demand release may consist of only a few files rather than a full installation package and may not have a new version number. |
