Upgrading Servicing Director More Than One Version at a Time

If you are on an older version of Servicing Director and want to upgrade more than one version at a time, the best practice is to upgrade to each release, in the order of their release.
The best practice is to upgrade to each release in the order of their release. It is best to be on the most recent prior version and service pack, before upgrading to a new version.
If you are on a version of Servicing Director older than the most recent prior version and service pack, review the following:
  • You can upgrade the server separately from the applications. If you want to upgrade more than one version at a time, you can separate the upgrading of the database server from the upgrading the applications on the desktop computers, so long as the server is upgraded first, and both the database and applications end up on the same version.
  • You can save time by skipping versions.  When upgrading more than one version at a time, you can save time by upgrading the desktop applications only once. After upgrading the database with several releases, including one or more service packs (installed back to back in order of their release), you can then upgrade the desktop computers once, to the same final version you have on the server. For example, if you are upgrading from 19.1, upgrade the database server through each release to 19.3, and then upgrade the applications once, going directly to 19.3.
  • Your Servicing Director Upgrade Guide will indicate the oldest version you can directly upgrade to the new version. For example, you can upgrade to 19.3 directly from 19.1, which means you cannot directly upgrade from the versions prior to 19.1, such as 18.4.  If you then were on version 18.4, you would need to upgrade to 19.1 and then you can upgrade directly to 19.3.
  • Skipping versions does not skip features and changes. If you upgrade from an older version described in the Upgrade Guide and skip in between full versions or service packs, the new version will contain all the features and changes added by the in-between versions and service packs. For example, if you upgrade directly from version 19.1 to 19.3, the 19.3 version will contain all of the in-between 19.2 and 19.2 service pack features and changes.
  • Have the Servicing Director users perform any business actions or setups which apply.  As you upgrade to each version, remember to do any business actions or setups which apply to your business, as described in each version's Release notes, including any service pack Release notes. This new release of Servicing Director will contain all the current features and changes from all the prior versions, including any service pack changes, but the fullest business information about the features and changes will be in each version's Release notes.
